Chinese: gui zhi
English: cinnamon twig, cassia twig
Pharmaceutical: Cinnamomi Ramulus
Properties: Acrid, sweet, warm
Standard Species: Cinnamomum cassia Presl.
Note: Japanese Pharmacopoeia includes Keihi (gui pi – Cinnamomi Cortex) only. Therefore, Keihi is often used in many formulas even when Keishi (gui zhi – Cinnamomi Ramulus) is traditionally indicated. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) however, two herbs are considered to have different therapeutic properties and their applications have been clearly differentiated.
