Kankyo

The photo showing is actually used as shokyo (“fresh ginger” or “Dried fresh ginger”) in Kampo.

Chinese: gan jiang

English: dried ginger

Pharmaceutical: Zingiberis Rhizoma

Properties: Acrid, hot

Standard Species: Zingiber officinale (Willd.) Rosc.

Note: In Japanese Kampo, Kankyo is a form of prepared ginger involving steaming the fresh ginger.  In TCM however, gan jiang is simply a dried ginger, which is used as the fresh ginger in Kampo. (see also the note under shokyo).
